Environmental Planner / Senior Environmental Planner
This position will support projects focused on wildfire resilience, ecosystem restoration, and climate adaptation. The role involves coordinating project planning, partner engagement, and GIS-based analysis, as well as preparing CEQA/NEPA environmental compliance documents and managing project scope, timelines, and budgets. The position also supports grant tracking, reporting, and collaboration with partners and subcontractors. Reporting to the Environmental Planning Program Director, this role contributes to impactful projects that strengthen community and ecosystem resilience, with potential for a senior-level position based on experience.
Communications Manager
This position will lead Whitebark’s communications and storytelling efforts, ensuring messaging aligns with organizational priorities, partner commitments, and community needs. This full-time, year-round role will develop and execute a strategic communications plan. Responsibilities include translating complex topics such as forest health, wildfire, community preparedness, and regional resilience into clear, engaging content for diverse audiences, managing digital and social media platforms, creating newsletters and outreach materials, coordinating partner communications, supporting public events, and assisting with donor and funder communications.
Environmental Planning & Collaborative Projects Director
The Environmental Planning & Collaborative Projects Director will provide strategic vision, leadership, and delivery of Whitebark’s environmental planning program and regional collaboration initiatives, ensuring alignment with our mission and goals. This role will lead the development of projects that enhance environmental resilience and will guide projects through various stages including, but not limited to project development, environmental compliance and permitting, and grant proposal preparation. The Director oversees a team of two environmental planners responsible for project delivery and will cultivate partnerships with Tribes, federal, state, and local agencies, and communities to enhance regional capacity for wildfire resilience by advancing strategic projects rooted in collaboration. This position is ideal for a forward-thinking leader who seeks to advance their career leading environmental planning efforts while supporting strategic partnerships. The Director will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of programs that leverage expertise and align resources to advance regional wildfire resilience, including environmental planning and collaborative project development in the Eastern Sierra.
Forest Health Operations Manager
This position will lead the planning, coordination, and implementation of large-scale forest health and wildfire resilience projects across the Eastern Sierra, including mechanized and hand-thinning operations. Responsibilities include overseeing multidisciplinary teams and partners to deliver ecological forest restoration and fuels reduction treatments, managing project timelines and operational logistics, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and project objectives, and serving as a key liaison with federal, state, local, Tribal, and nonprofit partners. This position plays a critical role in advancing strategic forest health initiatives, supporting staff development, fostering collaborative relationships, and driving the successful execution of landscape-scale restoration efforts that enhance ecosystem resilience and community wildfire preparedness. This is a full-time, year-round position that is primarily office-based, with regular fieldwork required throughout the year depending on project needs and seasonal activities.
Forest Health Seasonal Forestry Technician
This position will support Whitebark’s Forest Health program by assisting with field and office work related to forestry and fuels reduction projects during the 2026 season. Responsibilities include forest health monitoring, data collection, contract inspections, unit layout, timber designation, and coordination with partners such as the Inyo National Forest and the Town of Mammoth Lakes. Technicians will use forestry tools and GIS-based data collection software (e.g., ArcGIS Online, Survey123, GPS, tablets) while working both independently and as part of a collaborative team. This seasonal, field-based position is ideal for a motivated, organized individual with an interest in forestry and natural resource management, with an anticipated season of 5–7 months depending on conditions.
