This partnership between the Bishop Paiute Tribe, Sierra Institute, Inyo NF, and Whitebark Institute is building a forestry team with paid trainings and year-round work opportunities to conduct restoration and fuels reduction on tribal lands.

40 Acres Fuels Reduction

40 Acres Fuels Reduction

A combination of location and accumulated fuels put the 40 Acres community at high risk for wildfire. This effort improved firefighting capabilities by creating a fuel break, reducing fuel loads, and removing dead and diseased vegetation in 40 Acres.

Currently, there is only one egress/ingress route serving the community of Swall Meadows. This project will enhance public safety by establishing a secondary route for emergency access and evacuation by adding a connecting route to Swall Meadows Road.
